Power Wheels

I have modified several Power Wheel vehicles to increase speed and battery run time.  This is a fairly straightforward mod that simply involves: (1) replacing the stock battery with a larger battery of the same voltage (usually 12V), but with more capacity (measured in amp hours – Ah), (2) adding a 6V battery to get a combined 18V.  The stock Power Wheels motors won’t generally handle much more than 18V, so 18V is the maximum voltage unless you were to upgrade the motors.  Increasing the voltage above 18V would also likely require an upgraded drivetrain (gears and so forth) because the stock gearboxes are mere plastic and barely hold up at stock voltage.

Running a 12V and a 6V battery together isn’t ideal and will shorten their lives, but hey, when kids are young enough to ride Power Wheels, life is short.
